Located in the heart of Downtown Sarasota, Mattison’s City Grille offers a unique outdoor atmosphere on a city street. With plenty of fans and shade, the restaurant is a great spot to grab some grub, day or night – and all four seasons.
Mattison’s City Grille is serving up Italian-inspired tapas and pizza. To start, order the crowd favorite Goat Cheese Bruschetta, featuring fresh tomato and goat cheese on rustic bread with balsamic and olive oil.
If you’re looking for something more decadent, the Shrimp Rangoon features fresh caught Gulf shrimp fried in a tempura batter and drizzled with a sweet soy sauce.
Another great feature that sets Mattison’s apart from the rest is its the ‘pizza by the slice’ option. Mattison’s has a big brick oven that stays toasty and ready to fire up all day and night for the Chef’s daily pizza specials. (There’s always one meat and one vegetarian variety available.)
But the kitchen doesn’t stop there. Its menu also offers an eclectic selection of sandwiches and pasta dishes.
The Nona Esther Special, which happens to be the Chef’s grandmother’s (not-so-secret-anymore) recipe, is piled high Italian with meats and garlic aioli on toasted rustic bread. If you want to keep your cuisine local, the Grouper Picatta is made with fresh grouper straight out of the Gulf of Mexico.
When the sun goes down at Mattison’s, the guitar and bass amps get turned up. With live music that often lasts all the way until 11 p.m., this is a great spot to eat and hang out after hours, and usually welcomes a distinctly local crowd of all ages.
Since Mattison’s is a popular hotspot for locals, it might be a good idea to make a reservation ahead of your visit. You can also check out Chef Paul’s other successful restaurants around town, each reflecting its neighborhood and offering signature menu items.
