According to the Mozzarella Fella family, if your grandmother were Italian, this is the food she’d make.
Mozzarella Fella has been serving the Sarasota area since 2012. The Calore family hails from New York City and had dreams of opening an authentic Italian restaurant in Sarasota. Hence, Mozzarella Fella opened on Main Street.
As soon as you walk in, you will notice the delightful hodgepodge of vintage Italian signs, photos and other paraphernalia. The setting is intimate, so be prepared to cozy up with new friends.
The sandwiches are among the favorites at Mozzarella Fella. Each sandwich is carefully crafted and only features the freshest local ingredients. Try the Prosciutto Sandwich with fresh oven dried tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, olive oil and some of the house made special balsamic glaze for a tangy zip.
And when Mozzarella Fella says the mozzarella is fresh, they mean it. Andrew, part owner of Mozzarella Fella, talked about making freshness a priority.
“We make all of our mozzarella in-house from scratch,” he says. “We make anywhere from 20 to 40 pounds of fresh mozzarella daily. Our fresh mozzarella sets us apart from other places in the area.”
And the freshness doesn’t stop there.
“All of our dishes are handmade,” says Andrew. “And we have weekly specials. This week we have fresh gnocchi. We’re definitely more than just a sandwich shop.”
Prefer something on the lighter side? Mozzarella Fella has fresh salads available for lunch and dinner. Try the mesclun salad with caramelized walnuts, craisins, goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette or keep it simple with a fresh mozzarella salad with local tomatoes, roasted peppers and basil.
And no trip to Mozzarella Fella is complete without a cannoli. The cannoli are made fresh in-house and the ricotta is piped in the moment you order–a perfectly sweet ending to your meal.
