Kathryn Kittinger takes great pride in her beautiful restaurant and event space, The Garden Room Cafe at Shoogie Boogies.
After leaving behind a swanky corporate job in Silicon Valley, Kathryn discovered her creative gift and created a place to share it with her lucky visitors. She quite literally drove off into the California fog, said a little prayer and hoped for the best.
True story: Kathryn stumbled into photography in a pumpkin patch, and soon began taking pictures of babies on a Redwood stump. Later moving to Sarasota to be near family, she acquired The Garden Room Cafe to develop a photo studio, never dreaming it would be anything else.
And yet, here it is. Everything is perfectly crafted and has a fresh design, from the food to the flower arrangements.
Between the tranquil French music playing in the background to the floral fragrance wafting through the air, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to a bistro across the pond.
Shoogie Boogies is a chic spot for your own photo opp, and a lovely lunch date with the girls – open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
It’s also home to an adorable gift shop where you can buy almost anything curated for the restaurant, from the napkin holders to your champagne glass. (They’re working on an online store.)
The garden cottage was shipped all the way from England, and you can have your very own. In fact, they joke “If you buy a building, lunch is on the house.”
Picture yourself sipping afternoon tea here, where the White Ginger Pear tea is one of the best sellers. It’s made hot, but poured on ice when served for a British take on a Southern classic. The Elderflower Water and Raspberry Lemonade are straight from the Old Country.
(That’s England, if you’re not following along.)
Kathryn’s cat, Miss Kitty, can usually be found outside playing in the fallen rose petals.
What a life.
