When you’ve been mentioned in an episode of The Golden Girls, you’re golden in our book.
Station 400’s history is a bit of a mystery, with one guest purporting the location was a working train station in the 60s and another telling us it was never functional. But if you take a look at all the vintage photos on the restaurant walls, it certainly appears to have welcomed passengers.
Today, the station is welcoming diners for an amazing breakfast and lunch menu. Open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., a meal here will get your day off on the right track.
Local favorites include the Huevos Gringos – and the best sweet potato fries in the world. Our server told us she always tries to order a healthy breakfast, but then asks the chef to make her a Nutella Waffle ‘by accident’.
It’s no accident that the place has become so popular. Station 400 is very good at what it does, and the staff’s love for the food shines through in every bite. The restaurant’s pancakes were voted No. 1 in Sarasota in 2015. The Bacon Caramel version’s sweet-yet-savory flavor will stay with you all day (and haunt your dreams all night).
At lunchtime, try the Fried Green Tomato BLT or Brian’s Lump Crabcake Sandwich – with parmesan fries.
The menu changes seasonally … a good excuse to book another stay at Hotel Indigo Sarasota.
(See what we did there?)
Station 400 is a family owned and operated restaurant, helmed by Deen and Kelly Fox (operations + marketing) with their elder sons working various roles, and their youngest enjoying that same Nutella Waffle our server accidentally orders all the time.
If you’re in the mood to celebrate, order a fancy mimosa – Blood Orange, Hibiscus Pomegranate, Elderflower, Cucumber Lemon, Peach Ginger or Mango Coconut.
There are two locations – one in Downtown Sarasota and another in Lakewood Ranch, where the baked goods are made in-house. That location smells really good all the time … an enchanting mix of blueberry, cranberry, orange blossom and banana nut.
You’ll also find delicious homemade jams here, like Strawberry Lavender, Peach Ginger and Blueberry Vanilla, perfect as a Sarasota souvenir.
If you hadn’t noticed, they’re big on flavor here. It’s an experience for the senses, so stop and smell the … pancakes.
